About Us
What do we do?
DataBooth aims to work with your small to medium enterprise/business (SME/SMB) to help you grow and expand, and/or reduce your costs, by understanding your context and then harnessing the data that you have available or can readily source.
We seek to empower you to test your suspicions, to augment your intuition and inform your curiosity with stories and insights directly from your data. Where possible, we may also supplement your data with open data sources. We are well-acquainted and at-ease with dirty, incomplete real-world data.
We don’t care if you have big data or small data – our experience and that of the data science community of late is that bigger is not always to be preferred - with good results being achieved in domains previously thought to be big data only. e.g. NLP, computer vision
Traditionally analytics has been too expensive for SMEs to leverage, however, we believe that it is now feasible to work with you to create value for your business using an iterative approach.
We are keen to demystify data and analytics, educating as part of our process, making our approaches understandable and intuitive. Feel welcome to contact us for a conversation - it never hurts to have a chat :)
DataBooth also assists some select not-for-profits (NFPs) and seeks to re-invest in the open source analytics community.
What is open data?
Open Data is the idea that certain (non-sensitive) data should be freely available to everyone to use and republish as they wish, without restrictions from copyright, patents or other mechanisms of control.
In recent years, the Australian Federal and State Governments have begun to make various data sets open and provide a single-point of entry catalogue:
- Data.gov.au - Federal Government
- Data.NSW
- Open Data Queensland
- Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet - Open Data
Similarly, certain agencies also provide access to more specific information e.g.
Of course there is plenty of international open data and organisations e.g.
Open data example - NSW Parking
For example, if your business wanted to understand the available parking infrastructre in your local area, it is now possible to obtain a detailed list of parking spot information from the open data provided by NSW Transport.

How we do it?
We are like you
DataBooth is a small-to-medium enterprise (SME) just like you and we rigorously seek to minimise our overheads.
As a remote-first company (that pays tax in Australia) so we do not rent unnecessary office-space. We leverage fremium models of analytics-as-a-service offerings, paying only for what you actually use. This is designed to both minimise cost while creating a sustainable business model. We employ best-in-class open-source software, avoiding vendor-lock-in, while produce better quality and reusable solutions.
